CLEANING THE GRILL
Feel free to be obsessively compulsive about cleaning your car or GI Joe collection, but don't overdo it on your grill. An older grill that's been around the block a few times is nicely seasoned with smoke and drippings and cooks food so much better than one right out of the store. The trick is not to let it cross over the edge of gross and disgusting - big hunks of old and burnt mystery meat fused to the grill is not a good idea.
All you really need to do is: before cooking, when the grill is preheated and nice and hot, brush the grate with a long handle wire brush to loosen off any nasty bits. If there are any really stubborn scraps, a metal spatula works pretty well. After finishing cooking, brush the grill again. That's it.
Keep an eye on your drip pan and clean it out or change it periodically to prevent it from being a fire hazard.
